STAMFORD, Connecticut., October 19, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Cantu Beauty, an award-winning multicultural hair care brand, today announced a $ 150,000 investing in non-traditional students at historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) across the country in partnership with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). Non-traditional students face unique challenges completing their college education, primarily due to the balance between increased family and financial obligations. Cantu will help support these students by offering a series of curated career preparation content through UNCF this fall, as well as the award of 15 scholarships, worth $ 5,000 each, to the students attending the sessions.

“Higher education is a catalyst that propels black and brown communities forward,” said Dametria mustin, Global Vice President of Marketing, Cantu Beauty. “Cantu continues to be committed to paving the way for the next generation of leaders, entrepreneurs and shapers in our community through financial support and seminars preparing non-traditional students for success early in their careers. “

Non-traditional undergraduates are a demographic that isn’t often highlighted in college brochures or heavily considered when making campus-wide decisions. These students may have delayed enrollment in post-secondary studies, attend college part-time, work full-time, have dependents other than a spouse, and / or be single parents. Sessions organized by Cantu and UNCF on the themes of learning leadership skills, building confidence and communication skills, managing work-life balance and maintaining health and General well-being will help students develop intangible skills that need to be nurtured and strengthened outside of the classroom. .

“Our partnership with Cantu Beauty is unique in that they have a heart for a rapidly growing segment of the HBCU student population, especially in the midst of the pandemic, as more and more people return to their studies.” , said Maurice E. Jenkins, Jr., Executive Vice President and Director of Development, UNCF. “Work preparation resources and financial scholarships for non-traditional students can make a big difference in how well they are able to maximize their university experiences.”

Cantu Beauty’s partnership with UNCF is one of its ongoing commitments to uplift and uplift diverse communities. Earlier this year, Cantu Beauty announced its investment in Wonder Girl, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving ambitious young women of color and empowering them to take the next steps to a successful career. Additionally, last fall Cantu Beauty launched Cantu Elevate: a program in collaboration with 25 Black Women in Beauty to help black women entrepreneurs shape the future of beauty. The inaugural program awarded three black women entrepreneurs with a Cantu-sponsored advertising campaign worth approximately $ 160,000.
